Thinking About Becoming a Football Official?
You may be only slightly aware of “those out there in stripes”, but they make up a group of individuals who truly love the game of football and want to be more deeply involved – than just being a spectator. These “football officials” have come together to further their love and interest in the game.
If you have a passion for the game of football and would like to get involved or continue to be involved with this great game, we would like to extend an invitation to join the Rochester Chapter of Certified Football Officials (RCCFO).
* Take an inside look at a typical Friday night game. (An Officials Perspective)
We begin our meetings in July. As a new official, you will receive training and instruction (lectures, demonstrations, videos and exercises) from some of the finest officials in New York State. The training will be at a pace that you can easily understand and be able to comprehend. You will learn the fundamentals of officiating and will always have the chance to ask questions to help with your progression in being a football official.
Our association prepares officials for various youth football organizations as well as high schools throughout the county. Football requires officials to be at different positions around the playing field, each responsible for watching a different part of the action. To maximize your success, you’ll learn one position at a time, to maximize your development.
When your games start you will be assigned with experienced officials who will enhance your training experience. Each week you will have the opportunity to discuss your games with the instructors and your fellow first year officials.
You are welcome to attend a Varsity level pre-game. These opportunities for younger officials are great experiences and will only enhance your development and growth as a football official.
If you are a Military Veteran, you may be eligible to receive assistance with dues, insurance, and your uniform from Battlefields to Ballfields.
The thrill of “Friday Night Lights” is a feeling that is difficult to put into words. We hope that you decide to join us and share our passion for this great game of football.
